Job Requirements
Title: Head of National Geographic, Consumer Revenue & Growth
Reports to: President
Location: Washington DC or New York
The Head of Consumer Revenue & Growth will help lead National Geographic’s next phase of consumer growth by turning extraordinary brand affinity into deeper audience relationships, greater engagement, and stronger long-term economic value.
This executive will lead the strategy and performance of National Geographic’s global editorial subscription business while developing new ways to connect audiences more meaningfully across the brand’s content, products, experiences and communities. Working closely with leaders across Content, Product, Technology, Marketing, Finance, Ad Sales and other areas of Disney, the Head of Consumer Revenue & Growth will identify and scale opportunities that strengthen the Nat Geo consumer value proposition, grow recurring revenue, and capture more of the economic value created by the National Geographic brand.
The successful candidate will combine rigorous subscription and growth expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong consumer and brand judgment, and the ability to translate ambitious ideas into focused, measurable execution within a large, matrixed organization.
Key Responsibilities
Consumer and Audience Growth Strategy
- Develop and drive an integrated consumer growth strategy rooted in a deep understanding of National Geographic’s highest-value audiences.
- Use consumer insight, segmentation, behavioral data and market intelligence to identify opportunities to deepen engagement, increase conversion and build longer-lasting audience relationships.
- Partner across the organization to create more connected consumer journeys across National Geographic content, products, experiences and communities.
- Ensure that growth strategies support the development of next-generation audiences and lifelong relationships with the National Geographic brand.
- Establish clear objectives and measures for engagement, conversion, retention, customer lifetime value and revenue growth.
Digital Subscription Leadership
- Lead the strategy, P&L performance and long-term growth plan for National Geographic’s global editorial subscription business.
- Drive subscriber acquisition, engagement, retention and lifetime value through improvements in positioning, value proposition, pricing, packaging, lifecycle marketing and the customer experience.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the role of subscriptions as both a revenue engine and a foundation for deeper direct consumer relationships.
Product Innovation and Consumer Experience
- Partner closely with Product and Technology teams to shape digital experiences that increase customer engagement, revenue, and value.
- Translate audience needs and business priorities into clear product-growth requirements, business cases and success measures.
- Help develop a more coherent National Geographic consumer value proposition across relevant digital touchpoints.
- Influence product roadmaps through consumer insight, commercial analysis and a clear understanding of the National Geographic brand, while maintaining clear boundaries with Product and Technology.
New Monetization Models and Growth Innovation
- Identify and evaluate emerging consumer revenue opportunities, including membership, community, commerce, affiliate, experiential and other value-added models.
- Establish frameworks for evaluating emerging revenue opportunities and accelerating the incubation of new revenue lines.
Cross-Functional Revenue Leadership
- Serve as a central strategic partner and catalyst for consumer revenue and growth initiatives across National Geographic.
- Align Content, Product, Technology, Marketing, Finance, Ad Sales and international stakeholders around shared audience and business objectives.
- Navigate Disney’s broader capabilities and businesses to identify opportunities that can strengthen audience engagement and create incremental value for both National Geographic and the Company.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing, collaborative team with strong capabilities in subscription growth, consumer strategy, analytics and new-business development.
- Foster a culture of consumer focus, analytical rigor, experimentation, accountability and intelligent risk-taking.
- Communicate a clear set of priorities and ensure that the team concentrates resources on the opportunities with the greatest audience and business potential.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of leadership experience in digital media, subscription businesses, consumer revenue or related fields.
- Demonstrated success driving digital media transformation and scaling consumer revenue.
- Experience partnering with Product and Technology teams to develop consumer-facing digital experiences and deliver measurable business results.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience managing a P&L, developing business cases and prioritizing investments.
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to create clarity, alignment and momentum without relying on direct authority.
- Experience operating successfully within a large, complex and highly matrixed global organization.
- Strong consumer and brand judgment, with the ability to develop commercially meaningful ideas that remain authentic to National Geographic’s mission, credibility and distinctive audience promise.
- Authentic passion for National Geographic and its commitment to premium, fact-based, purpose-driven storytelling that inspires curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world.
