Ireland Intern Spotlight: Meet Ellen and Karla!
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a Disney Intern in Dublin, Ireland? Meet Ellen and Karla! At Disney+, Ellen is a Marketing and Publicity Intern getting to work on fun projects such as a campaign for The Bear Season 2 and influencer events. At The Walt Disney Studios, Karla also is a Marketing and Publicity Intern and her day to day consists of marketing campaigns and event planning. They filled us in on everything there is to know about being an intern!
Meet The Interns
Ellen | Marketing and Publicity Intern | Disney+ (Dublin, Ireland)
Karla | Marketing and Publicity Intern | The Walt Disney Studios (Dublin, Ireland)
Can you tell us about your experience as a Disney Intern and what you learned during your time?
Ellen: My time so far as an intern at Disney+ has been invaluable and has completely exceeded my expectations of any internship. I have learned the ins and outs of creating a marketing campaign, practical on-the-job skills, how to navigate life in a professional environment, and so much more. Being the first Disney+ intern in our Ireland office has given me lots of space to develop and grow in this role.
Karla: I have had the most amazing experience working for Disney. It almost feels indescribable. I have gained so much experience in so many different aspects of the job that I would have not previously thought possible. What stands out to me is probably learning how important communication is. It is such a cliché answer, but working in such a fast-paced environment proves it is so important to be able to communicate efficiently. Teamwork obviously goes alongside this, especially as we are such a small team.
What has been your favourite project during your internship?
Karla: We hosted a special gala screening of Searchlight Pictures’ All of Us Strangers. Andrew Haigh, Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal were all in attendance. Not only was it unbelievable meeting people whose work I admire, but the film itself was so profound that I felt so lucky to be able to be a part of it. Working on such a big event from start to finish was the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my life.
What has been your biggest piece of learning from your internship?
Ellen: It’s hard to pick just one thing that I have learned during my internship so far, as every day you pick up new skills or tips, but one thing that really stands out to me is learning how vital it is to ask questions.
What sets Disney apart as an employer?
Ellen: Disney has been incredibly supportive of me as an intern from day one. As daunting as it feels working for such a big, global organisation, everyone who I have worked with has been extraordinarily helpful and happy to answer any questions. Because the Irish team is smaller than some of the other EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) teams, I have gained hands-on experience in multiple projects, from assisting with ongoing campaigns to organising screening events.
How did you prepare for your internship? Do you have advice for any future applicants?
Karla: My advice would be to not doubt yourself. It is so easy to let negative thoughts get in the way of something you want. I’m so grateful I believed in myself! It is so important to not only present yourself well in a professional manner, but also let your personality shine.
Who is your favourite Disney character?
Ellen: My favourite Disney character has to be Hannah Montana as the show was my favourite growing up.
Karla: It is without a doubt Jack Jack from The Incredibles.
