Business Development Manager, TDS
Job Summary:
Job Requirements
The Disney Store (TDS) brings Disney’s beloved stories and characters to life through immersive retail experiences, exclusive products and memorable guest interactions. Across physical stores, pop-ups and online channels in China, TDS creates seamless ways for fans and families to connect with Disney. With a guest-first approach and locally relevant, “only-at-Disney Store” collections, TDS continues to expand its reach and deepen the love for Disney in China.
About the Role
As Business Development Manager, you will play an important role in developing TDS China’s growth strategy and building a strong pipeline of new business opportunities.
You will identify potential markets, channels and strategic partnerships, assess their commercial potential, develop business cases, and work with internal and external stakeholders to bring the strongest opportunities to life.
You will work cross-functionally with Retail Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance and Legal, while developing relationships with external partners including shopping malls and commercial property operators.
If you enjoy combining strategy, commercial thinking, relationship building and hands-on execution, this role offers an opportunity to help shape the next chapter of The Disney Store’s growth in China.
What You Will Do
Shape Growth Opportunities
- Develop business development strategies aligned with TDS China’s business priorities, consumer needs, channel opportunities and market trends.
- Translate strategy into annual business development plans with clear priorities, projects and milestones.
- Identify and evaluate potential new markets, channels, partnerships and other business opportunities.
- Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of opportunities aligned with business priorities.
Build Compelling Business Cases
- Evaluate opportunities from both strategic and commercial perspectives.
- Partner with Finance, Operations and other teams to develop business cases, including revenue and cost projections and risk assessments.
- Provide clear recommendations based on market insights, commercial analysis and business potential.
Develop Strategic Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with shopping malls, commercial property operators and other potential business partners.
- Develop partnership proposals and lead negotiations on key commercial terms.
- Engage relevant external stakeholders to support business opportunities and project development.
Turn Ideas into Execution
- Work closely with Retail Operations, Merchandising, Marketing, Finance and Legal to align resources, approvals and execution plans.
- Lead projects from opportunity assessment and business-case development through negotiation, contracting, implementation and handover.
- Manage timelines, dependencies and risks while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and key decisions.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Finance or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in business development, retail expansion, strategic partnerships or another relevant commercial role.
- At least 3 years of experience independently leading partnership or cross-functional projects.
- Strong understanding of China’s retail and consumer landscape.
- Demonstrated ability to take business opportunities through evaluation, business-case development, negotiation and implementation.
- Strong commercial judgment, structured thinking and project-management skills.
- Strong partnership development, stakeholder-management and negotiation capabilities.
- Financial and analytical capability, including Excel-based business analysis and basic financial modeling.
- Strong PowerPoint and business-proposal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and English.
- Ability to travel based on business and project needs.
Preferred Qualifications
We would particularly welcome candidates with experience in:
- Branded retail, consumer products, cultural and creative products, or entertainment-related businesses.
- Shopping mall and commercial property partnerships.
- New market entry, store or pop-up expansion, or development of new retail concepts.
- Multinational or matrix organizations.
- Building networks and partnerships with shopping malls, commercial property operators and other relevant commercial partners.
- Engaging relevant government stakeholders on business projects in compliance with applicable requirements.
Why This Role
This is more than a traditional business development role. It is an opportunity to work across strategy, partnerships and execution, taking ideas from initial market opportunity through commercial assessment and negotiation to implementation.
With an established TDS China presence to build from, you will have the opportunity to help shape where Disney Store can grow next, which partnerships can enable that growth, and how those opportunities can be translated into sustainable business outcomes.
