Job Summary:

Job Requirements

Technology is at the heart of Disney’s past, present, and future. Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, data scientists, and more – all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney’s media business globally.

The team marries technology with creativity to build world-class products, enhance storytelling, and drive velocity, innovation, and scalability for our businesses. We are Storytellers and Innovators. Creators and Builders. Entertainers and Engineers. We work with every part of The Walt Disney Company’s media portfolio to advance the technological foundation and consumer media touch points serving millions of people around the world.

Here are a few reasons why we think you’d love working here:

Building the future of Disney’s media: Our Technologists are designing and building the products and platforms that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.

Reach, Scale & Impact: More than ever, Disney’s technology and products serve as a signature doorway for fans' connections with the company’s brands and stories. Disney+. Hulu. ESPN. ABC. ABC News…and many more. These products and brands – and the unmatched stories, storytellers, and events they carry – matter to millions of people globally.

Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and solve complex and distinctive technical problems.

What You'll Be Doing

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead strategy, roadmap, and execution for Platform Stewardship and Governed Data Products within Data Platform Governance. This role sits at the center of the Platform Governance pillar — where metric definitions, semantic standards, catalog metadata, and lifecycle governance must converge so that every answer, whether surfaced in Looker, or Tableau or returned by an AI agent, is trustworthy, consistent, and traceable.

You will own a large, ambiguous, business-critical product area spanning Metrics Consistency, Semantic Layer Governance, Metadata Management, and Data Lifecycle Governance across multiple platforms and teams, operating with broad autonomy and minimal direction to define strategy and drive execution. You will translate strategy into executable roadmaps. The work moves the organization from tribal knowledge and manual reviews to measurable, automated controls that scale with the business — requiring deep product judgment, technical fluency in data pipelines and lineage, and the ability to align senior stakeholders across Privacy, Legal, Security, Business, Data Analytics and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary product lead for Platform Stewardship and Governed Data, representing strategy and roadmap decisions in senior leadership and executive forums.
  • Define and lead the product strategy and roadmap for Platform Stewardship and Governed Data, prioritizing metadata management, metrics consistency, semantic layer governance, catalog modernization, and lifecycle governance.
  • Establish platform-agnostic, steward-owned metric definitions that resolve fragmentation across BI tools, and AI agent workflows.
  • Drive semantic layer standardization and metadata automation, so governed definitions are discoverable, consistent, and reusable across Snowflake and Databricks domains.
  • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for stewardship capabilities — from problem definition and PRD through launch, adoption, and iteration.
  • Partner with engineering and data architects to automate and improve metadata coverage, semantic layer accuracy monitoring, and data lifecycle controls.
  • Champion governed semantics and metadata foundations across ingestion, classification, usage, retention, lineage, and AI provenance.
  • Align senior stakeholders on strategy and roadmap.
  • Secure and prioritize engineering capacity through the intake process, tying delivery to measurable business outcomes.
  • Define and track KPIs such as Metric Reliability Score, semantic layer accuracy, metadata coverage, and catalog adoption to guide prioritization.
  • Act as the domain subject matter expert for semantic layer governance, data catalog practices, and steward-driven metadata workflows.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 10 years of relevant experience in an enterprise software development environment, with a minimum of 6 years as a product manager.
  • Expertise with Data Management, Big Data & Analytics, Data Warehouse, Data Governance, Metadata Management, Data Catalog, Semantic Layer, or related fields.
  • Experience with data lineage, catalog modernization, and lifecycle governance including AI provenance and agent-driven data consumption.
  • Experience defining and governing business metrics across complex data architectures and multiple analytics platforms (e.g., Looker, Tableau, or equivalent BI and semantic layer tools).
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake and Databricks (or equivalent enterprise data platform technologies), including semantic layer tooling, data catalog platforms, and metadata management systems.
  • Familiarity with data domains, enterprise data catalog platforms, and steward-driven metadata workflows.
  • Proven ability to develop product strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to executive management.
  • Skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams and influencing conversations to drive positive outcomes for the product and the business.
  • Adept at driving clarity through all levels of the organization for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance various priorities.
