Job Summary
The Cannonball squad sits within MarTech Tools in Commerce & Identity (Commerce – Acquire). We build internal platforms that power how Disney Streaming markets and publishes to hundreds of millions of unauthenticated visitors across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+.
Cannonball is the enterprise CMS and publish engine for marketing landing pages and related experiences. Editors use it to model content, author in a rich entry editor, schedule and bulk-publish, and roll out localized variants globally.
Cannonball sits at the center of a connected MarTech suite:
- Magic Frame: Source for incoming assets and templates
- Royalball: Editorial content workflow management
- Nexus / Web Growth: Delivery pipeline for published end-user experiences
- Pixelball & Wayback: Experience validation and historical archiving
Product Marketing, Paid Media, Marketing Design, SEO, Ad Ops, Legal, and Customer Support all depend on this stack to ship campaigns faster with built-in governance. We work in two-week sprints (CNBL), ship from the cnbl/monorepo, and invest heavily in engineering-owned quality, including Playwright E2E, test data infrastructure (TDI), and SonarQube gates on every PR.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role
As Product Software Engineer I on Cannonball, you will grow by shipping real product with close mentorship from senior engineers. Your day-to-day work typically includes:
Feature Development: Build features on the Cannonball web app and supporting services—including entry editor, content models, publishing workflows, localization/locale behavior, and integrations with the broader MarTech ecosystem.
- UI & API Engineering: Implement bug fixes and incremental improvements in Vue 3 / TypeScript UI and Node-based APIs, with a strong focus on clarity and maintainability.
- Automated Testing: Write unit tests (Vitest), integration tests, and Playwright E2E suites for Tier 1 publish journeys following squad Definition of Done and coverage expectations.
- Agile Participation: Participate actively in code reviews, sprint ceremonies, and tech discussions; ask questions early and document learnings.
- Operational Awareness: Leverage stage/pre-prod environments and our isolated E2E environment to validate changes prior to production.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with QA governance, sibling squads (Web Growth / Nexus), and internal daily power users.
Basic Qualifications
- Solid understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript and core web fundamentals (HTML/CSS, HTTP, REST, browser devtools).
- Coursework, internships, or personal projects demonstrating your ability to implement, test, and debug small features end-to-end.
- Comfort learning within a large codebase and proactively seeking guidance.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a hybrid, cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to Vue, React, or another modern SPA framework.
- Familiarity with Git version control, code reviews, and CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions or similar).
- Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, or E2E).
- Interest in CMS platforms, content modeling, localization, or marketing technology.
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable field of study, or equivalent work experience
