The Senior DBRE position is part of a central Database Systems Engineering team supporting data services and platforms across Enterprise Technologies, multiple business segments and global development teams. The role focuses on the design, support and optimization of on-premise and cloud-based database platforms that enable critical business and operational processes. Working closely with teams across multiple regions and lines of business, the senior DBRE helps ensure reliable, scalable and secure data services while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence across the enterprise.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, manage, and optimize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server database platforms across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Lead database performance tuning, high-availability, and disaster recovery strategies across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor backup and recovery procedures for SQL Server databases.
  • Perform database capacity planning and work closely with infrastructure teams to forecast and provision resources.
  • Act as a database technology Subject Matter Expert (SME), partnering with technology stakeholders and clients to resolve issues and recommend platform improvements.
  • Automate provisioning, scaling, backups, and routine operations using infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef).
  • Troubleshoot complex system and database issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate with application developers, cloud architects, and DevOps teams to deploy reliable and scalable systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and contribute to knowledge sharing through documentation and system diagrams.
  • Participate in CI/CD pipelines to integrate database changes with automated testing and deployment.
  • Implement monitoring, observability, and logging strategies to proactively detect and resolve issues.
  • Architect high-availability, disaster recovery, and scaling strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Create detailed system diagrams, performance analyses, and architecture documentation for leadership review.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience managing enterprise Microsoft SQL Server database environments.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2016–2022.
  • Experience with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Strong T-SQL and PowerShell scripting skills.
  • Experience leading complex SQL Server upgrades, migrations, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Deep expertise with SQL Server high-availability and disaster recovery technologies including Always On Availability Groups (AG), Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), and Log Shipping.
  • Strong experience implementing and managing SQL Server security features including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), Row-Level Security, Auditing, and Vulnerability Assessment.
  • Advanced performance tuning skills with proficiency in execution plan analysis, Query Store, Extended Events, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs), and workload diagnostics.
  • Experience developing long-term capacity models, forecasting growth trends, and driving infrastructure rightsizing initiatives.
  • Experience with enterprise database monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Microsoft Windows Server administration experience.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid architectures.
  • Deep experience with automation, configuration management, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, tune, and optimize complex database workloads.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to both technical and executive stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

  • Working knowledge of Oracle or PostgreSQL administration and support.
  • Expertise in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Mesos, DockerEE).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
