Reporting to the Director, Producing and Development, the Manager, Producing and Development (PH) will play a key role in the creation and artistic management of new musicals for Disney Theatrical Group, including:
 

DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCING

  • Manage and line-produce major elements of readings & workshops, including but not limited to booking rehearsal spaces; liaising with stage managers and music team members; managing technical elements like load-in/load-out, sound and music equipment rentals, off-site band rehearsals; facilitating the casting process whether internal to DTG or alongside an external casting director; offering opinions on casting and hiring of production team members such as production assistants and music assistants; overseeing script/score printing & change process with stage management and author team including execution in Final Draft; attending read-thrus and rehearsals and checking in with creative team members; managing guest lists at final presentations; etc.
  • Manage financial and business affairs components of new work development, working with Assistant General Manager, Special Projects and Director, Development & Producing on all budgets and EFCs related to labs, workshops and titles in development, and adjacent projects like EPs or Cast Albums. Generating and facilitating the dissemination of at-will agreements and CRPs for team members alongside Business Affairs team; executing high level creative team fee and advance payments in early stages of development and organizing the hand-off to general managers once in production; conduct script and/or score analysis projects for legal review regarding royalty participation decisions.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with Creative Team members across various shows in development, including directors and writing teams, throughout the multi-year creative process from seed of the idea to first production. Organize various meetings with creative or production personnel; maintain a detailed one-line calendar of all creative team conflicts and development milestones, timelines and deadlines; manage and host creative work sessions onsite at DTG; manage archives of all scripts and scores for the project; oversee non-nyc based core creative team travel, occasionally as booker but more often as liaison between key VIP talent and DTG production/GM team. 
  • Provide Artistic & Dramaturgical Support to authors and directors, including but not limited to: creating detailed beat outlines and song spotting documents; conducting show-specific research and dramaturgical projects; generating yellow-lines of scripts to track changes; offering thoughtful creative feedback on script/score via the Director, Development & Producing; organizing notes from DTG executives or amongst creative team members throughout process.
  • Facilitate portions of regional engagements and pilot productions of development titles, including traveling to regional theatre partners to be onsite for rehearsals, tech and previews, participating in casting sessions, coordinating production meetings and check-ins with designers & creative team members with artistic director, managing director and regional theatre staff; overseeing travel/housing/per diem for core creative team traveling for the production; liaising between regional theatre and Disney for all required approvals such as marketing, design, ticketing, opening night events, etc.
  • Manage special projects as assigned by Director, Producing & Development including but not limited to recording studio sessions / cast albums; special events/concerts/performances utilizing creative team talent or material from new works; etc.

LICENSING DEVELOPMENT

  • Proof-read JR/KIDS Showkits & all other script, score and associated print materials related to TYA & Full Length show releases via MTI or Samuel French; delivering notes and recommended edits to Assistant Manager, Producing & Development
  • Review and note guide vocal and accompaniment recordings
  • Attend at all readings, labs, and pilot productions of new works in the JR/KIDS/TYA catalogue
  • Provide creative & dramaturgical feedback on all shows in JR/KIDS/TYA catalogue during development, via the Director of Producing & Development, who will deliver those notes accordingly/as needed alongside Assistant Manager, Producing & Development
  • Provide additional producing or general management oversight for licensing projects such as choreography videos, guide vocal/accompaniment recordings, or readings as required by Director, Producing & Development due to size and scope of project and/or overarching development calendar and departmental resources.
     

STRATEGY & SCOUTING & PLANNING

  • Contribute meaningfully to slate meetings with the EVP Producing & Development and rest of department regarding DTG creative development and new work strategy. Participate in the discussion surrounding new titles for stage adaptation and creative team selection. Make recommendations for artists (writers, designers, directors, choreographers, etc.) to join projects in development. Conduct research on prospective new IP for stage adaptation and potential creative team members to create them. Organize outcomes and notes from meetings into actionable next-steps for team leaders.
  • Scouting works and artists in the theatrical community, so as to be able to participate and contribute meaningfully to the strategy, greenlight and title / team selection process. Attend and report on shows and festivals locally and regionally. Visit and meet with regional theatres for potential future partnerships.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in theatrical production with an interest in producing and new work development
  • Experience supporting high level talent and senior executives.
  • Knowledge of creative development processes, especially AEA tiered workshops.
  • Proficiency in presentation applications and Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with various people and styles.
  • Experience prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced creative environment.
  • Success working independently as well as part of a team to achieve desired results.
  • Experience in Final Draft and Canva strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in theatre or a related field, a plus.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $84,700 to $109,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
