Position Summary

We're embarking on an exciting new journey at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), with our first Data Science internship under the CG Technology department. This is a unique opportunity for an intern to be at the forefront of establishing how we leverage data to drive innovation and efficiency across our legendary visual effects production. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping our data strategy, identifying key insights, and helping us make more informed decisions.

What You Need to Know

  • The CG Tech Internship is a paid 4 month placement from September to December 2025 with the possibility for extension (up to 8 months).

  • This role is considered Hybrid, which means you will work onsite at our Vancouver studio and occasionally from home.

  • You will be required to work full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.

  • We do not provide assistance for relocation, housing, transportation, or work authorization for Internships.

  • You must be a Canadian Citizen or hold Canadian Permanent Resident status and be residing in British Columbia.

  • You must be enrolled in a public, post-secondary school and will return to your studies upon completion of your internship with ILM.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement data analysis scripts and tools to extract insights from various datasets.

  • Contribute to daily operational tasks related to data quality, data cleaning, and data validation.

  • Assist in the creation of dashboards and reports to visualize key metrics and trends.

  • Participate in the development of a data science project, which may involve predictive modeling, statistical analysis, or machine learning applications.

  • Collaborate with engineers, artists, and production teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.

What We’re Looking For

  • Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

  • Strong proficiency in Python and its data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, Seaborn).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities.

  • Strong time management skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings with a positive, pro-active attitude.

  • Proven experience with data analysis and/or data science projects (e.g., academic projects, personal projects, previous internships).

  • Familiarity with SQL for data extraction and manipulation (ElasticSearch, Prometheus is a plus).

  • Working knowledge of statistical concepts and data modeling techniques.

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) is a plus.

  • Knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark) or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
