Job Summary:
About the Role & Program
KGO-TV (ABC7) is an ABC-owned television station (OTV), located in San Francisco near the city’s iconic waterfront. The station is in the #8 ranked television market in the country! You will have an opportunity to participate in developmental programming and contribute to daily operations of a major market television station.
With the 7 on Your Side team, you will get hands-on experience working with our team that produces consumer news segments each week day, reaching hundreds of thousands of viewers and directly helping the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area!
While you'll get news production experience, you'll also learn essential office skills. Overall, we hope to teach how to find, craft, and distribute good stories while instilling a sense of teamwork and a desire to help those around us.
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 to early June 2025.
What You Will Do
Keep up with daily consumer news with an eye for potential stories, with possible light writing assignments
Research for producers’ stories, including web research, verify data over the phone, and cross-check multiple sources
Help sift through viewer responses to find the most compelling stories for the producers, and compile data on the information gathered from the pool of viewer messages
Help consumer counselors as they answer viewer email and present the viewers’ issues to the relevant companies/agencies.
Assist producers on field shoots
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience using Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Google Sheets, Zoom, Slack
Experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets in Excel
Experience with researching and keeping multiple projects organized
High attention to detail and experience multitasking in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience (academic or internship) in journalism (print and/or broadcast); television, news and news media production; and/or television news script writing
Experience with AP style writing
Familiarity with Adobe Premiere and/or Airtable
Experience using camera and/or lighting equipment
Education
Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
Undergraduate students in their Junior or Senior year or recently graduated within the past 6 months preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
Be at least 18 years of age
Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
The approximate dates of this internship are January 2025 to early June 2025
Fully available to work 20 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor and could include nights and/or weekends)
Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the San Francisco, California area
Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
The pay rate for this role in California is $18.67 per hour.
