WDI Germany provides technical, architectural, and design services for new-build cruise ships, specializing in managing and overseeing the design, construction, and outfitting processes in Germany and other parts of the world.

Areas under the supervision of the Marine & Technical (M&T) team:

Marine Systems:

  • Mooring and Anchoring Equipment; Nautical Systems; Life-Saving Appliances and Lifeboats; Safety Systems (Hi-Fog, Fire Main); Certification & Regulatory Compliance; Underwater Hull Systems; Steel Construction; Watertight Integrity Technical Systems:

  • Power Generation Plant (Dual Fuel Engines) and Associated Systems; Bilge & Ballast Systems; Potable Water Production, Analysis, Treatment, and Distribution; Advanced Waste-Water Plant, including Grey and Black Water Systems; HVAC and Supporting Systems; Refrigeration Plant and Systems; Waste Heat Recovery System Electrical Systems:

  • Propulsion System (Azipods) and Power Generation Plant (Alternators); Power Distribution; Automation System;

  • Explosion-Proof Equipment; Safety Systems (Fire Detection, Low-Level Lighting); Elevators; Telephone Systems; Laundry and Galley Equipment

As our Marine & Technical Team Intern, you will report into the Technical Superintendent, and be located in Papenburg, Germany.

What You Will Do

  • Assist the Marine & Technical team in monitoring and inspecting various phases of shipbuilding, including steel construction, outfitting, systems installation, and commissioning

  • Ensure adherence to design specifications, standards and rules and regulations

  • Contribute to the identification and resolution of construction-related issues

  • Support the M&T team in maintaining good record keeping of activities, inspections, meeting minutes and project management documentation

  • Assist in preparing content for project updates for the WDI site team and project stakeholders

  • Actively participate in meetings and provide feedback and updates, propose improvements, highlight risks and opportunities

  • Develop effective partnerships with various stakeholders, representing the M&T Teamʼs interests in achieving project success

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a secure working environment for all, report any safety concerns promptly and contribute to the implementation of safety measures

  • Engage in ongoing learning opportunities to deepen technical knowledge in ship construction

  • Seek mentorship from experienced professionals within the site team to enhance understanding of the overall shipbuilding process

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Basic understanding of ship systems, marine equipment, or technical operations

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills (English)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Curiosity, quick learning, self-starter, and good intuition

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and task-oriented

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Willingness to work in shipyard or onboard environments as needed
