Sr Manager, Learning Strategy
Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Learning Strategy leads the development and execution of learning strategies and leadership experiences that build critical capabilities and support business priorities across Disney Experiences.
This role serves as a strategic learning consultant to business, HR, and Talent Management leaders. The Senior Manager translates organizational needs into integrated learning solutions, leads a team of Learning & Development professionals, and oversees work from strategy and design through implementation, adoption, and evaluation.
Success in this role requires strong disciplined portfolio and project leadership, expertise in adult learning and leadership development, and the ability to influence across a complex, global organization.
Learning Strategy and Portfolio Leadership
- Develop and execute integrated learning strategies aligned with Disney Experiences priorities, leadership expectations, and workforce capability needs.
- Translate business strategies, talent initiatives, and performance needs into clear learning priorities, roadmaps, and solutions.
- Lead a portfolio of learning initiatives, balancing business impact, learner needs, resources, timing, and organizational readiness.
- Identify opportunities to simplify and integrate learning solutions including measurable outcomes.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant learning offerings, industry practices, emerging technologies, and adult learning research.
Business Consulting and Partnership
- Serve as a trusted learning advisor to HR, Talent Management, senior leaders, and business partners.
- Consult with stakeholders to diagnose performance and capability needs, clarify the role of learning, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Facilitate alignment across multiple stakeholder groups, including decisions related to audience, scope, investment, governance, implementation, and measures of success.
- Influence senior leaders and cross-functional partners through clear recommendations, sound judgment, and compelling communication.
- Partner across Disney to connect enterprise, segment, and business-specific learning strategies and resources.
Learning Experience Development and Execution
- Guide the design and sustainment of learning experiences using adult learning and instructional design principles.
- Establish clear project plans, roles, decision points, risks, and dependencies for a portfolio of projects including mix of learning approaches and best in class tools.
- Partner with stakeholders on organizational readiness, and adoption efforts associated with new or changing learning experiences.
Measurement and Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate learning effectiveness, adoption, and contribution to business outcomes using learner feedback, stakeholder insights, and relevant performance measures.
- Translate findings into clear recommendations and continuously improve the learning portfolio.
- Communicate progress, impact, risks, and decisions to senior leaders and key partners.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Learning & Development professionals.
- Set clear priorities, roles, expectations, and performance standards.
- Build team capability in design, project leadership, measurement, and stakeholder management.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment in which different perspectives are valued and team members are empowered to contribute.
- Allocate work and resources effectively across competing priorities.
Basic Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Learning & Development, talent development, organization development, leadership development, performance consulting, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of progressive people leadership experience, including setting direction, allocating work, coaching employees, and managing performance.
- Demonstrated experience developing learning strategies aligned with business priorities with robust project management discipline
- Strong knowledge of adult learning, instructional design, leadership development, and performance improvement principles.
- Experience consulting with senior leaders, HR partners, Talent Management teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives from strategy through implementation and evaluation.
- Experience defining success measures and using qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate learning effectiveness and business impact.
- Strong executive communication, facilitation, influencing, and relationship-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, make decisions, and create clarity in a fast-changing, matrixed environment.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to connect learning investments to organizational needs and outcomes.
- Demonstrated commitment to building an inclusive workplace and designing learning experiences for diverse, global audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting theme park, hospitality, cruise, or other complex, customer-facing operations; Disneyland Resort experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated use of innovative learning techniques, digital technologies, and/or tools to support delivery of work
- Formal certification/education/experience in applying learning models, adult development theory, or curriculum development
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business Administration, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Education:
- Advanced degree in Learning, Psychology, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Human Resource Management, Education, or a related discipline.
The position’s primary work location will be Anaheim, with regular presence expected at the Glendale office.
The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $168,200.00 to $205,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
