The Disneyland Resort Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE) GIS (Geospatial) team manages the enterprise GIS systems, spatial data infrastructure, and web map tools and applications that support operations, ongoing projects, and long-term maintenance for Attractions, Hotels, Maintenance, Foods, Merchandise, and Entertainment projects across the Resort. Our work spans several lines of business, which makes day-to-day work exciting with endless possibilities.
As a GIS (Geospatial) Intern, you'll work directly with DLR’s GIS staff towards the mission of building and maintaining authoritative facility data that's easily accessible to decision-makers. You'll get hands-on exposure and experience with several aspects of the GIS discipline including field operations, mapping production, workflow automation, and more.
The approximate dates of this internship are January - June 2027.
Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
This Internship is in Anaheim, CA.
What You Will Do
As a member of the Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE) team, your responsibilities may include:
- Configure, edit and maintain GIS feature data in an ArcGIS enterprise environment
- Conduct field inspections and validation of facility assets, infrastructure, and maintenance-related data
- Capture field data using mobile tools (e.g. GIS apps, tablets) and other data capture technology (e.g. 360 cameras, GNSS surveying equipment)
- Verify GIS data, existing records, drawings, asset inventories and other data sources against real-world conditions
- Produce maps, web apps, and other geovisualization products to support project requirements
- Identify discrepancies and provide clear documentation of corrections or updates
- Coordinate with engineers, maintenance teams, architects, project stakeholders and various other subject matter experts to resolve data inconsistencies
- Develop documentation in the form of research reports, technical reports, visualizations, or presentation materials to support any operational needs
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 0-2 years of experience in geospatial, GIS, data engineering, data science, AEC, field operations, or related technical work
- Basic knowledge of GIS and geographic principles
- Basic knowledge of spatial data design and cartographic design
- Basic knowledge of GIS software products such as Esri’s ArcGIS or QGIS
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in data or field conditions
- Comfortable working outdoors and performing regular fieldwork across various site conditions
- Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational, and documentation skills
- Enthusiasm to learn new technologies and build skills, which is vital in supporting the evolving nature of both the Resort as well as the geospatial and digital industries
- Ability to critically evaluate problems and provide solutions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with facility assets, utilities, infrastructure, or construction environments
- Experience with engineering data sources such as CAD, BIM, and Civil 3D
- Experience with scripting and database tools used in GIS environments (e.g. Python, SQL, Arcade)
- Experience with geospatial ETL products such as FME, ArcGIS Data Interoperability, and Python libraries like GeoPandas
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, drawings, and technical documents
- Knowledge of data validation processes, asset lifecycle management, or digital twins
Education
- Currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior or Graduate student at an accredited college/university, earning a Bachelor or Master's degree in geography, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or a related field
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (no rounding)
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program
Additional Information:
- Be compliant with The Disney Look appearance guidelines
- Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
- Fully available Monday thru Friday, PST for the duration of the internship,40 hours each week
- Able to provide own housing for the duration internship program in the Anaheim, CA area
- Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work.
The pay rate for this role in Anaheim is $31.00 per hour.
